The de Young and Legion of Honor are temporarily closed as part of the Bay Area’s larger effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. As a result, the Fine Arts Museums face a projected shortfall of $9 million. We are mitigating this loss with cuts to our already lean budget, but we are committed to resuming our robust schedule of exhibitions and programs upon reopening and ensuring the continuity of the staff required to do so. We know that our community will need the solace and inspiration of art more than ever when this crisis abates.

In this time of urgent need, we are turning to our community to support our efforts to make art and education as accessible as possible. Please consider making a donation that will enable us to continue serving more than 1.4 million people—including families, students, and art-loving individuals—each year.

We recognize that this crisis affects everyone differently, but please know that your gift in any amount will make a tremendous impact.

Here are some of the things we are doing to care for our collections and build community around art during the Museums’ temporary closure.
